In what many are considering to be Oscar night's biggest upset, the Best Foreign Language Film trophy went to Departures . Regent Releasing, sister company of The Advocate 's parent company, Regent Media, will distribute the film this summer.
According to the film's official website , Departures is "a delightful journey into the heartland of Japan as well as an astonishingly beautiful look at a sacred part of Japan's cultural heritage."
The film's director, Yojiro Takita, accepted the statue and summarized his excitement quite simply, saying, "I am here because of film."
Waltz With Bashir , Israel's official entry, was the odds-on favorite to take home the award. (Advocate.com)
