Tell-Three.org is
urging anyone, gay or straight, to have conversations with
three people about what it's like to be LGBT, asserting that
coming out isn't enough. The website asks visitors to
"Tell three people what it's like for you or your
loved ones to be LGBT. Because we used to think coming out
would win us our rights. Now we know it takes more than
that."
Tell Three
offers conversation starters and discussion subjects, as well
as links to resources. The website stresses the significance of
opening dialogue and speaking to those who are conflicted about
LGBT issues.
The website especially
encourages speaking to those who don't have a hard-line
opposition to LGBT rights, "Like your aunt, who has
nothing against gay people, but firmly believes in restricting
marriage to straight couples. Even if your story won't
change her vote, it might make her think twice before giving
money to antigay groups. But having these conversations with
diehard homophobes and transphobes usually isn't helpful --
and could discourage you from having conversations with other
people who might end up on our side."
