Rep. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin distributed a video with the help of the National Stonewall Democrats on Thursday describing why LGBT people "ought to be very focused in on the health care reform debate."

Baldwin, the only out lesbian in Congress, details some of the challenges LGBT people face in the national health care system, including disparities in care, inadequate data, and lack of relationship recognition needed to obtain employer-based benefits. She explains how the proposed health care reform bill will address some of these problems, such as a repeal of the tax penalty for same-sex couples who choose benefits offered by an employer.

"There are many reasons why people in the LGBT community ought to be following health care reform very closely," Baldwin says.
