Boyzone's Stephen Gately Dead at 33

Irish boy-bander Stephen Gately was found dead Friday night in a hotel room in Majorca, where he was vacationing, according to News of the World. He was 33.

According to reports, Gately returned to his hotel room after a night of drinking with friends, went to sleep, and never woke up. No official cause of death has been released.

The members of Boyzone recently reunited, and all four remaining members are expected to travel to Majorca this weekend to pay their respects.

The out singer caused a stir in the pop world when he came out 10 years ago, while Boyzone was still at the height of its fame. Gately joined Boyzone in 1993 after answering an advertisement in Dublin to audition for Ireland's first boy band.

Gately is survived by his partner, Andrew Cowles. The two entered into a civil union in March 2006.
