The Producers Guild of America announced Wednesday that it will honor the film Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire with the Stanley Kramer Award.
The award recognizes films that "illuminate provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion."
Last year's honoree for the same award was Milk, whose producers, Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, were also nominated by the guild for Motion Picture Producer of the Year.
Precious, directed by out filmmaker Lee Daniels, is currently in limited release and will expand to more theaters nationwide November 20.
