The Virginia couple under investigation for allegedly crashing the state dinner at the White House last week appeared on national television Tuesday morning to argue that they were invited to the event.
Husband and wife Tareq and Michaele Salahi, both aspiring reality television stars, told NBC's Today show that they were invited to the state dinner by a Washington law firm connected to a senior Pentagon official.
"The truth will soon come out," said Tareq.
Meanwhile, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs insisted to Today host Meredith Vieira that the Salahis were not invited to the high-profile event honoring Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh.
The Salahis have been invited -- for real -- to testify about the alleged security breach at a hearing on Thursday before the House Homeland Security Committee. The hearing will also include the Secret Service, whom the Obama administration says dropped the ball in allowing the Salahis to enter the White House.
