Sherlock Holmes Sequel Not if He is Gay

Robert Downey Jr. has suggested on several occasions that Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick Watson could be lovers - but the US copyright holder of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books says if a sequel explores that relationship, she won't allow it to be made.

"I hope this is just an example of Mr. Downey's black sense of humor," Andrea Plunket told reporters. "It would be drastic, but I would withdraw permission for more films to be made if they feel that is a theme they wish to bring out in the future. I am not hostile to homosexuals, but I am to anyone who is not true to the spirit of the books."

Plunket said she was angered by comments Downey made to David Letterman suggesting that Sherlock Holmes is a "butch homosexual." Both Downey and Jude Law, who plays Watson, have discussed the rumored "bromance" between the two characters.

Sherlock Holmes has racked up more than $100 million in the U.S. since opening on Christmas Day, making a sequel highly likely.
