Fight Back New York, the political action committee formed to defeat state senators who voted against marriage equality, released a video Wednesday with actress Cynthia Nixon. In the video she talks about her personal investment in the fight against antigay state lawmakers.

Nixon is engaged to marry her partner. The marriage equality bill she lobbied for failed in a 38-24 vote in December.

"Last year, prior to the vote, so many of us went up to Albany to speak with our state senators about why marriage equality is so important to us and to our families," says Nixon. "They didn't get the message. They still think it's OK to treat me and hundreds of thousands of other New Yorkers like second-class citizens. I'm not OK with that. That's why I've decided to fight back."

The first target of Fight Back New York is former state senator Hiram Monserrate, one of eight Democrats who voted against the marriage equality bill. Colleagues ousted Monserrate last month over his misdemeanor conviction for assault on his girlfriend, but he is seeking to win back the Queens seat in a special election this Tuesday. His campaign is aligning itself with antigay interests.
