Gay conservative group GOProud has named Tammy Bruce, a talk radio host and Fox News commentator, as chair of its new advisory council. Bruce describes herself as "an openly gay, pro-choice, gun-owning, pro-death penalty progressive feminist."
GOProud announced the appointment of Bruce to head the advisory council in a news release Wednesday morning.
"Tammy Bruce is one of the most influential voices in the conservative movement today," said Christopher Barron, chairman of the GOProud board. "We are honored to have her as part of the GOProud team."
Bruce said, "At this critical time in our nation's history, it's time for all conservatives, including gay conservatives, to offer our solutions for the problems facing our country. I am proud to join GOProud in providing a voice for gay conservatives in our national dialogue."
The Los Angeles-based Bruce, 47, hosts The Tammy Bruce Show, which is syndicated nationally on weekdays. She delivers political commentary for Fox News and is a best-selling author. Her political experience includes work for Democrats and Republicans.
GOProud expects additional members to join the new advisory council in upcoming weeks. The purpose of the council is to add prominent conservative leaders as a resource for the board and staff members.
