Discriminatory legislation will not stop the University of Arizona from giving domestic-partner benefits to gay couples.
The university announced its plans to overlook a bill signed by Gov. Jan Brewer (pictured), which revoked domestic-partnership benefits for state employees. UA made the decision to maintain such benefits to remain competitive, according to an article in the Arizona Daily Star.
The bill eliminating domestic-partner benefits for state employees will become law October 1, and UA will start its new policy offering such benefits the same day.
