Keith Kimmel, the Oklahoma activist who died shortly after he sued the state for the right to a license plate that said "IM GAY," died from an oxycodone overdose, according to an autopsy report. Some speculated that the 28-year-old died in March from injuries sustained during an encounter with police at a Tulsa gay bar.
According to News on 6, a report from the chief medical examiner says that Kimmel died from acute oxycodone toxicity.
"The autopsy report does note the external injuries Kimmel alleged to have received during his arrest," reports News on 6. "It also says Kimmel suffered from atherosclerosis and morbid obesity."
Kimmel filed a complaint against police officers for his treatment during the arrest.
