American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized Monday night in Charlotte, N.C., after overdosing on "aspirin and a sleep aid," according to her manager.
Barrino was reportedly devastated after reading a court complaint from a woman who claims Barrino carried on a yearlong affair with her husband.
"Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused," her manager Brian Dickens said in a written statement to CNN. "Yesterday, she was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention."
Barrino is expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday.
Her latest album, Back to Me, is due to be released at the end of the month. Barrino also played the bisexual character Celie in The Color Purple on Broadway in 2007 and 2008. She returned to the role in February for the musical's staging in Los Angeles.
