Despite his long-standing friendship with roommate Ernie and describing his hair as being more "mo," Sesame Street's Bert is not gay.

In June, in the midst of Gay Pride Month, Bert tweeted about pop culture icon Mr. T in relation to the A-Team movie remake that hit theaters this summer.

"Ever notice how similar my hair is to Mr. T's?" the post said, according to United Press International. "The only difference is mine is more 'mo' and a little less 'hawk.'"

While some interpreted that as being a clever wink at gays, Sesame Workshop vice president Ellen Lewis said wasn't the intention of the tweet or the show's general message.

"We've always reached out to a variety of actors and athletes and celebrities to appear on the show, and our programming has always appealed to adults as much as children," Lewis said. "Honestly, the idea that anyone would interpret [this season] that way never crossed our minds."
