Martin Gill, who successfully challenged Florida's ban on same-sex couples adopting children, has adopted two children that he and his partner have raised for six years, the AP reports.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit on behalf of Gill challenging Florida's adoption ban, which had been in place since 1977. The state did not appeal a ruling by the third district court of appeal that the ban is unconstitutional.
Gill and his partner have been foster parents to the two children, who are brothers, since late 2004. The adoption for the Miami couple was finalized Wednesday.
