The House of Representatives is expected to vote Thursday on whether to prohibit federal funding for National Public Radio.
Sponsored by Republican Colorado representative Doug Lamborn, the bill is unattached to any appropriations measure and would prohibit local affiliates from using federal money to pay for NPR programming.
As The New York Times wrote in a Wednesday editorial, however, the bill faces grim prospects in the Senate and a likely presidential veto.
Lamborn is undeterred: "This is an exciting and significant step forward in the ongoing effort to protect taxpayer dollars from supporting programs that are fully capable of standing on their own," he said in a statement.
