Emmy Award-winning actor John Leguizamo is the first Latino to film a video for the Americans for Marriage Equality series from the Human Rights Campaign.

In the video, released Monday, Leguizamo says, "Loving, committed couples should be able to marry the person they love and protect their families. Nothing is more important than family and nothing says family like marriage."

The video is the fourth in the national public engagement campaign that launched last month and currently runs online. Other videos have featured Newark mayor Cory Booker, Academy Award-winning actress Mo'Nique, and NAACP chairman emeritus Julian Bond.

Modeled on the widely praised New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign from HRC, Americans for Marriage Equality features prominent figures to raise awareness as national battles loom in the courts, in state legislatures, and at ballot boxes heading into 2012, and polls show that about 53% of Americans support marriage equality. HRC plans to release targeted videos including Republicans for Marriage Equality, African-Americans for Marriage Equality, Latinos for Marriage Equality, and Elected Officials for Marriage Equality in the coming months.
