Rock superstar Sir Elton John and his husband, film producer David Furnish, expressed their shock and disappointment when Madonna beat out John in the Best Original Song category at Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards.

John was up for "Hello Hello" from Gnomeo & Juliet, a film Furnish produced, while Madonna was up for "Masterpiece" from W.E., a film she directed and cowrote.

After telling Carson Daly on the red carpet before the show that Madonna didn't have "a fucking chance" of taking home the award, the musician's surprise was evident during the ceremony when Madonna's name was called instead of his.

From his BlackBerry, Furnish posted the following on Facebook: "Madonna. Best song???? Fuck off!!!" An hour later he posted again, saying "Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it's [sic] narcissism."

Backstage, when asked how it felt to beat John, Madonna answered, "I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years. He's known to get mad at me. ... He's brilliant and I adore him, so ... he'll win another award. And I don't feel bad."

Furnish continued venting his frustration, saying to the New York Post, "I think it was a fluke. ... When this happens you have to question the integrity of the awards. Did Madonna get the Golden Globe because she attended the awards and agreed to be a presenter?"
