At 10:57 a.m., officers responded to a call about a possible shooting at the Pulse Ultra Club, located at the 2700 block of South Kings Highway. (Not to be confused with the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, which was demolished earlier this month.)
The officers stated that one person had been detained after locating and stopping a vehicle that matched “the description related to this incident.”
A WMBF reporter on the scene observed police vehicles at the club, which left at approximately 1:30 p.m. An SUV with a blue plastic over a window was also spotted in the parking lot.

The vehicle ended up belonging to the nightclub’s owner, Ken Phillips, who spoke to WMBF about the incident.
Phillips said he was at the club doing paperwork that morning when he heard “five or six” gunshots around 11 a.m. He quickly checked around outside and said he didn’t see anyone fleeing the scene, but later discovered the windshield and a window of his vehicle had seemingly been shattered by bullets.
Phillips also stated that the club’s security cameras captured a car driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 17.
“They pulled up right at the entrance on the side and started shooting,” said Phillips, and added that he was unsure if the incident was a hate crime or not.
“I don’t know if it’s personal, I don’t know if it’s related to being gay, I don’t know if it’s related to the bar issues,” he told WMBF. “Anybody with a mindset of pulling out a weapon in broad daylight is not right.”
