Billy Porter recently shared an Instagram update about his health with his fans after being diagnosed with sepsis back in September. His illness led him to step down from his role as the Emcee Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club a month earlier than expected and to take time away from public life to recover in private. Now, he's opened up about his illness and the recovery process.
"Some of you may or may not know that I was in the hospital very ill this fall with urosepsis," the actor started his video saying. "It was not easy. It’s been a very, very challenging four months. And I want everybody to know that I am on the road to a full recovery. I’m not there yet, but I’m on the road to that.” He continued, as he started to get emotional, "I wanted to thank everybody for your prayers and your love and sending me all the vibes. I felt every single one of them. And I know that I’m alive today because of my fans."
His video was warmly received online, with heartfelt messages from famous friends and fans who left him comments of support. His American Horror Story: Apocalypse co-star Sarah Paulson wrote, "I love you," and the singer Annie Lennox left a longer comment saying, "Oh my…. I’m so glad you’ve almost fully recovered Billy!!!" She continued, "Sounds like you’ve been through ‘quite’ an ordeal… You are a FORCE of nature..with SO much more to give!!!! UNDAUNTED - UNDEFEATED!!! It’ll take more than a little sepsis to take you away from us!!"
