Thousands attended the Gay Pride celebration in Hong Kong earlier this month — a record turnout — and reveled in the theme of "Love Is Love." While the mood was mostly jubilant, some complained that Hong Kong is lagging behind other Asian cities, specifically Taipei, when it comes to LGBT equal rights. Still, many agreed that Hong Kong is slowly embracing such rights, with the hope that marriage equality and antidiscrimination bills are on their way.
"I think Hong Kong is making enormous progress," Pride marcher Mark Green told the Hong Kong Free Press. "We’re seeing changes … in the way that people react and respond to gay people in the workplace and society."
