Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a cohost of The View known for her conservative stances, said that she supports marriage equality, a position that she acknowledged would surprise some people.

Hasselbeck sat for a wide-ranging interview with Fancast, which asked the 33-year-old cohost to identify some common misperceptions about her.

“I actually support gay marriage,” said Hasselbeck. She added, “I think the gay marriage thing would definitely surprise people. I mean, for some people, it will surprise them to the point that they won’t want to hear it. ‘No, that can’t be, I really want to have this sort of idea of her in my head,’ so I sort of rain on their parade there.”

I don’t think it possible for me to be more surprised. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to just throttle her. If I had to guess how many I think It would be virtually every time she opened her mouth. There has to be a catch here somewhere. About the only thing more surprising would be to learn the Grand Dragon of the KKK was in a mixed racial marriage, to another gay man.

"Its possible she's a libertarian." Its possible on this issue but she is not in regarding other issues (foreign affairs, monetary policy etc.) For a REAL libertarian take on this issue watch "Judge Napolitano Predicts: Supreme Court Will Approve Gay Marriage!" On YouTube. It is a great video and Judge Napolitano (one of the most famous and rising stars of the libertarian movement) nails it on the head.

Its possible she's a libertarian. People who have reasonable social views, but want the govt out of the business of taxing, ruling, and governing. Our state repub senate leader said to me - I want the gov out of our bedrooms and our pocketbooks. so the gays might get the right to marry. while the old people see social security and medicare abolished, and are told to go die at the hospital door if they can't provide proof of insurance. No wonder a woman said to me "its Krystalnacht time again" re screaming against med care for all last year? Libertarians want a free for all, tough shit if you lose society. Repubs and tea party want a christian theocracy version of Iran, with NOMs solution to gay marriage - a sign with a pix of two nooses - becomes reality. Hitler isn't dead yet - he's reborn. Whether I like or dislike obama is not the question - If the repubs win big, America is dead. Thats the choice we all face. And the choice the GOP Proud etc have already screwed up

@Joseph, I see what you are trying to say, but I think Fred meant to say that since marriage entails life-long, committed, monogamous relationship that in itself makes it "conservative," but I think couples have a right to arrange their marriage as they see fit, and the conservative model seems to be more popular.

And Fred, just to point out how NON-conservative gay marriage is, my home state of Alabama voted a ban on same-sex marriage (or ANY equivalent) by a margin of 80-19. Neither major Democrat spoke against the Amendment and both GOP candidates supported the Amendment (the Amendment was on the primary ballot, not the general election). All the Dem candidates received about 6000 more votes than the GOP candidates (total for both parties, 926,000) while the Amendment got about 66,000 fewer votes than the Gubernatorial candidates. At least 40% of the Dem voters voted to ban same-sex marriage. (Bear in mind this from a state which a mere 8 years earlier had just over 40% of all the voters vote to retain the Constitutional ban on interracial marriage which had been overturned by the US Supreme Court in 1967.)
