The splashy new musical Thoroughly Modern Millie dominated Monday's Tony award nominations announcement, with a total of 11 nods. The show, based on the 1967 film musical, was the brainchild of out producer Dick Scanlan. Other shows from gay creators in the running this year include the revivals of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods (10 nominations) and Noël Coward's Private Lives (six nominations).
The Tony Awards will be broadcast live on PBS and CBS on June 2. For a complete list of nominees, visit www.tonys.org.
