Poll: Obama Leads McCain by 46 Points Among GLBT Adults

According to Harris Interactive, in a four-way race, Barack Obama leads John McCain among registered voters 44% to 35%, while Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate, and Ralph Nader each receive 2%. Sixteen percent of registered voters are not sure whom they will vote for yet.

Among gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender adults, 60% favor Obama, while 14% favor McCain. Three percent of GLBT adults favor Barr, while 1% choose Nader. Six percent choose “other,” while 17% of all GLBT voters are not yet sure which candidate to support -- comparable to the percentage of undecided voters in the general population.

Among independents, Obama has a 12-point lead (38% to 26%), but one quarter of independents (25%) are not sure; 4% would vote for Bob Barr, and 3% for Ralph Nader.

The findings also show that 90% of African-Americans are voting for Obama, as are six in ten Hispanics. Whites, however, are leaning toward McCain over Senator Obama (40% versus 34%).

The results of this Harris Poll were compiled from 2,690 U.S. adults surveyed online by Harris Interactive July 3–11. (The Advocate)

well i agree,it sounds great to dream that this or that person is gonna take away our problems, but remember it takes more than a willing candidate to fix our issues, often times as soon as they get what they want they forget about us. we have to stand together to win....

I join the chorus of those who feel Obama, by no means a solidly pro-gay candidate, is the lesser of two evils. Once again, I will hold my nose and push the lever as I've done so many times before. Maybe one day, a candidate who has the guts to endorse programs that won't relegate us to a second class status will emerge. In the meatime, I will not be voting FOR Obama......I will be voting AGAINST John McBush.

I honestly don't know what to say. With the 60% pro-Obama figure, no wonder I get ostracized when I come out and try to have a meaningful issue oriented conversation. I thought it was merely because I was a retired Airborne, Ranger, and Special Forces officer (baby killer) dedicated to liberating the oppressed (our motto). You know us military macho guys have more in common with aviator, ex-POW types like John McCain than 143 day Senate wunderkind and empty suit community activist Barack Millhouse Obama. So I guess that makes me a traitor - to the "Community" that is. To the ad hominem devotees let me save you some time and declare, "I'm a Traitor. I'm a Traitor. I'm a Traitor. I am a self-hating Traitor." And to you and your other big government adherents I say, "Leave me alone!" Go ahead and get your way and tear down the pillars that protect you and summon powers that will ultimately drag you away, again.

I have to ask why here. If it comes down to picking the lesser of two evils then I guess Obama is the answer. What ever happened to the write in vote? Here is a chance to cast you vote and make it work for the betterment of the GLBT community. Do something with you vote and cast it for say Tony Soprano it might actually wake up the democratic part leadership and present us with a viable candidate.

I find some of your comments to be ridiculous! John McCain is an outspoken critic of the gay community, while Obama has said he will support GLBT issues, the only issue he doesn't fully support is gay marriage, but believes it should be left up to the states. I see that as progress. Of course, it would be great to see Obama fully support our issues, but only one of us can fully support our issues. As far as "doing some research on gay issues in black America", let's understand not all gays are white, DUH.

When all else is said and done, we need to think only about the Supreme Court. Which candidate is most likely to appoint another Scalia, Thomas, Alioto or Roberts? Enough said.

Vic A..WOW, those are quite some words coming from a gay man. You must have some anger issues, or maybe you are just a drink or a junky who can't respect other people's views. Oh, I can see you are a former Republican, you sound as a bigot as the republicans you mention. I must say, I'm an undecided voter, because Hillary is no longer in the picture. I know her record. Obama will NEVER come as close as hers regarding LGBT issues. And he will do nothing for us. Mark my words. Maybe you should read some history about gay issues in black America. I don't like either candidate up there and I am not one to vote for the lesser evil. Unless Hillary is there, I will not be voting for Obama, and certainly not for McCain. Oh, please go to a therapist to hep you with your anger issues.

To all the Obama sheep, don't forget that Obama "toured" with a PROMINENT "ex-gay" minister last year AT OBAMA'S INVITATION (and, of course, Obama claimed to not know anything about that--Obama's reason for McClurkin: "He's popular with African-American Evangelicals"). Another of Obama's leading supporters (Rev Meeks) has been very widely quoted spouting harsh antigay rhetoric (as nasty as anything from Falwell, Robertson or Dobson). Obama has also minimized a woman's right to abortion when he chose to state that a woman shouldn't have a late-term abortion just because she's feeling blue. And, Obama decided to vote FOR the FISA "compromise", promising to work against it AFTER he's President. (I guess the Obama spokesman who vowed that Obama would oppose, even to the point of filibuster, any effort to allow telecom immunity in the FISA bill should've double-checked with his boss. Then again, Obama's had a nasty habit of being the very type of politician he claimed he wasn't.)

Any GLBT American voting for Sen. McCain is irresponsible and a disgrace. I know people may have some issues with Sen. Obama, but whatever those issues are, nothing should warrant voting for someone who is against allowing you to have the same human rights as the rest of Americans.

Hey Vic A the only people being handcuffed will be "the brothers & the sisters" who think we are going to tolerate their Anti-American/Black Militant/AfroCentric comments anymore than the Islamic/Muslim trash who want the same thing-death to the whites, the nonbelievers... John McCain is going to kick ass!!!

It still goes to show that there are mentally retarded gays as well (clearly 14% of them!!). They are the most despicable scum in my opinion. These gays and lesbians who vote for McCain should get what they richly deserve. If he wins, they should be handcuffed and sent to the "gay jail" and then given the death penalty for being gay, because as McCain and his SOB buddies would say they are "sinners" who should burn in hell. And mind you, I'm a FORMER republican (of course, back then, I wasn't too knowledgeable about politics, and was absolutely not aware of the kind of hatelful, b*stard SOB BIGOTS these republicans were)......and FYI, I would not vote republican if my life depended on it (and it probably does!). Long live Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course! Hey advocate, time to take notice that the gay community is unified with the candidate who comes closest to supporting all of our issues (Obama), and against a candidate (John Dole McSame) who along with his allies is against every one of our issues.
