"I've dreamt of this moment my whole life."
It's official: Out singer Mary Lambert is getting married to her longtime partner, Wyatt Paige Hermansen. The happy couple made the announcement via Instagram in a series of photos and videos, including both a ring reveal and photos of the two all smiles.
The post also included a video of the moment Hermansen popped the question while the two were on stage. The couple, who cohost The Manic Episodes podcast, were doing a live event of conversation and songs about mental health, queer identity, and self-love at the University of Arkansas Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education. The video opens with Hermansen down on their knee, while Lambert exclaims "Oh, my God! Are you serious?" Hermansen nods yes and the two embrace.
In the caption for the post, Lambert shared just how excited she is for the couple's next big step together. "I've dreamt of this moment my whole life. We're gonna get married in front of god and everybody!!!!! I love you, Wyatt Paige Hermansen!!!" she wrote.
Lambert is best known for her song "Same Love," a collaboration with Macklemore that earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Song in 2014. She's also a poet, composer, and activist. Hermansen is an English professor who specializes in rhetoric and composition. For nearly two years, the pair have opened up about their lives through their podcast, where they discuss their struggles with mental health (both have been diagnosed as bipolar), self-love, queer relationships, fat activism, and sobriety.
The event where the two were engaged was the first-ever live show for the pod, and perhaps they were dropping clues ahead of time. The description included this warning: "Complimentary tissues will not be provided, so cry at your own risk." As it turns out, there were plenty of happy tears to go around.
