Variety reports that out REM lead singer (and movie producer) Michael Stipes Single Cell production company has acquired All Families Are Psychotic, a new Douglas Coupland novel that will be published in September. The novel, set in Cape Canaveral, Fla., tells the story of a family get-together the weekend before the first female astronaut is launched into space. She might be the most grounded family member, when she is about to fly off into space, Stipe said. This is a very real story that turns into a fairy tale. Couplands previous novels, Generation X, Shampoo Planet, and Microserfsall gay-inclusive and popular among queer readershave also been optioned, although none has yet hit the big screen.
