StopDrLaura.com, the Web site that spearheaded a successful campaign to pressure television stations to drop a syndicated talk show hosted by advice-dispensing physiologist Dr. Laura Schlessinger, has received two Golden Dot awards from George Washington University's Democracy Online Project. The stated aim of the project is "to promote the development of U.S. online politics in a manner which upholds democratic values." StopDrLaura.com said in a news release Tuesday that it had been recognized in the category of Public Support and for mounting "the best online political campaign of the previous two years." (No award in that category was issued in 2001.) Although Schlessinger steered clear of issues related to gay rights on her TV show, StopDrLaura.com campaigned against it based on the views she expressed on the subject on her syndicated national radio talk show.
