Sky News reports that out Queer as Folk creator Russell T. Davies--whose remake of Doctor Who is currently in the works--is writing a new BBC drama about Casanova that will star Peter O'Toole and out Little Britain star Matt Lucas. O'Toole will play the aging ladies' man with David Tennant playing the younger Casanova in flashbacks; Lucas's character is a gay Venetian duke. "Casanova was a wonderful, [crazy], inventive man," says Davies. "And what a fraud: He wasn't born an aristocrat; he lied his way into jobs and positions of power with charm and cheek. Our modern-day impression of a lascivious misogynistic man is hopelessly wrong. This man genuinely loved women and respected them with an astonishingly modern mentality."
