Out producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago, It's All Relative) have restored and digitally remastered Liza Minnelli's landmark 1972 TV special Liza With a "Z"--A Concert for Television, Showtime announced Saturday. The cable network will air the new version in 2006. Originally filmed on May 31, 1972, with eight 16-millimeter cameras by Oscar-winning cinematographer Owen Roizman, the show won four Emmy awards following its initial broadcast. Bob Fosse directed and choreographed. "If you weren't present at the filming and you didn't see the special when it aired once on NBC in 1972, chances are you never saw this extraordinary event," said Showtime's openly gay president of entertainment, Robert Greenblatt. "The inimitable Bob Fosse conceived and filmed this project in a way that television specials had never been done before, and it captured Minnelli at the zenith of her creative power. We're thrilled to unwrap this musical gem and showcase it for a generation that's never seen it before."
