Indie distributor Picture This Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to the gay-themed Canadian comedic drama Whole New Thing. The film will have a limited release in theaters in the fall. The story centers on a 13-year-old boy (Aaron Webber) who, after years of home teaching by hippie parents, is sent to a local school. The precocious youth soon develops a crush on his promiscuous gay English teacher (Daniel MacIvor), leading to various complications for them and the student's family. The project marks the second feature from director Amnon Buchbinder (The Fishing Trip), who cowrote the script with MacIvor. (Gregg Goldstein, Reuters)
