Brokeback Mountain too taboo for China?

Though Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee hails from Taiwan, his award-winning film is unlikely to screen in mainland China, where homosexuality is largely frowned upon, reports Variety. A source from China Film Group, the mainland's sole film importer, told the Xinhua news agency that domestic audiences were unlikely to embrace a movie about gay cowboys. Speaking in Hong Kong last week, Lee had expressed his view that Asian audiences were perhaps more receptive to queer themes than in some parts of the United States. (Advocate.com)
