Brokeback Mountain, with its explicit gay sex scenes, is not appropriate entertainment for male inmates, according to Massachusetts prison officials who are punishing an officer for screening the film.

"It was not the subject matter," said Massachusetts Department of Corrections spokeswoman Diane Wiffin on Saturday. "It was the graphic nature of sexually explicit scenes."

The unidentified officer, who showed the film Thursday at the prison in Norfolk, failed to follow prison guidelines that require staff to review screened films for excessive violence, nudity, and sex, Wiffin said.

Prison officials would not comment on the officer's punishment. (The Advocate)
