Gus Van Sant's debut feature, the seminal queer cinema classic Mala Noche, will be presented as a special screening at the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. Currently unavailable on video, the 1985 film was also presented at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Based on the autobiographical novel by Walt Curtis, Mala Noche deals with a retail clerk who becomes obsessed with a Mexican migrant farmworker. (The Advocate)
