The Wiz will return to the stage in the first high-profile revival of the original Broadway musical since 1984. The show will be performed at the La Jolla [Calif.] Playhouse, beginning previews on September 26. A 1975 African-American adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, the musical will star David Alan Grier in the title role and Wayne Brady as the scarecrow. Nikki M. James (All Shook Up) has been cast as Dorothy. The show will be led by director Des McAnuff, who directed last season's Tony winner Jersey Boys. (The Advocate)
