The Los Angeles
area will be infused with a diverse and exciting lineup
of films during Fusion 2009: The Los Angeles LGBT People of
Color Film Festival, presented by Outfest and HBO. The
festival will showcase a variety of feature films as
well as shorts this year. The full lineup was released
by festival director of programming Kimberly Yutani this
week and includes such recent film festival favorites
as Pedro and I Can't Think
Straight. In addition to the films that will be
screened, the festival will feature panels, workshops,
and parties for festivalgoers to enjoy.
A completely
unique film festival because of its niche within multiple
minority groups, Fusion has made it its goal to provide an
underserved audience of LGBT people of color with
media that is relevant and relatable. According to
Yutani, "Fusion highlights cultures and
experiences that are so often marginalized in mainstream
media. Fusion films and videos are provocative, moving
and fun, and most importantly, the festival brings
together diverse audiences and draws connections
between people of different races, classes, and genders."
The festival will
take place in Los Angeles March 6-8. Screenings will be
held in the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, and the other
festival-related events will be at Universal Studios
and the LAGLC's Village at Ed Gould Plaza. Go
to www.outfest.org for more detailed
screening information.
This year marks
the sixth annual Fusion Festival in Los Angeles.
