Gay Marriage Waltzes Into DWTS

Marriage equality took the national stage Monday night on Dancing With the Stars. Contestants Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel performed a waltz about an interracial couple who could not legally marry in the 1960s, which prompted Van Amstel to compare the situation to the current plight of same-sex couples.

Nash commented to Van Amstel during rehearsals that she could not imagine being unable to marry her boyfriend.

"I hear you," said Van Amstel. "I'm still in that boat. So we've come a long way, but you've got to help me fight my battle too."

After their performance, Van Amstel said, "Everybody should be able to get married."
