Deborah Landey, the current United Nations resident coordinator to the Philippines, was named deputy executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS this week, according to a UNAIDS press release. Landey, a Canada native, replaces former deputy director Kathleen Cravero, who left the organization in March to work as director for the Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Recovery at the U.N. Development Program. "As deputy executive director, Deborah Landey will play a key strategic role in supporting me in leading the senior management of the UNAIDS secretariat," said executive director Peter Piot in a press release. "Her exemplary management and country-level experience in driving greater U.N. coordination and effectiveness will be of prime importance to UNAIDS as we move forward."
