Geron Corp. announced that research on two of its compounds have show that they help the body's own immune cells in fighting the production of viruses in HIV-infected cells. The compounds, small molecule telomerase activators named TAT0001 and TAT0002, enhanced the ability of CD8+ T cells to kill other HIV-infected immune cells, the research demonstrated. During the progression of HIV, CD8+ cells age faster than normal and lose their ability to kill off immune cells that have been infected with HIV. (AP)
