California's Riverside and San Bernardino counties are slated to receive an 11% increase in federal Ryan White AIDS funds this year, bringing the counties' total funding level to more than $7 million, The [Palm Springs] Desert Sun reports. The increased funding is in stark contrast to neighboring Los Angeles County, which saw its Ryan White grant cut by $1.9 million, down 5.2% from last year's level.

The grants to Riverside and San Bernardino countries will fund HIV medical care, case management, substance abuse counseling and treatment, transportation, food and nutrition services, and housing for low-income HIV-positive residents. The funds also will help support three new AIDS service providers launched within the past year in the region: AIDS Assistance in Palm Springs, Working Wonders in Cathedral City, and an HIV clinic in Coachella.
