Chinese state security on Tuesday released from custody an AIDS activist who had been missing for more than a month, Agence France-Presse reports. Hu Jia had been missing since mid February after working to organize a nationwide hunger strike to protest police brutality against activists. Although police refused to confirm whether Hu had been in custody, activists in the country assumed he had been secretly detained. Hu's wife, Zeng Jinayn, held a press conference last week to announce that he was missing. The Chinese vice health minister last week said he had no knowledge of Hu's whereabouts. (The Advocate)
