Rosie at odds with Rosie publisher
The New York Times reports that Rosie O'Donnell's dissatisfaction with the editorial direction of her namesake magazine has led to threats of legal action, although insiders say the situation has calmed down in recent days. The newly out O'Donnell was reportedly upset after the departure of editor Cathy Cavender and even more upset with Cavender's replacement, Susan Toepfer, a former managing editor at People, over Toepfer's change of the magazine's direction. Rosie is jointly published by O'Donnell and Gruner & Jahr USA, and the two camps have had recent disagreements about the magazine, including personnel and editorial issues. O'Donnell reportedly wants to stretch the limits of the traditional women's magazine, with more emphasis on real-life problems, while Toepfer, according to sources, wants more uplift. "There are creative differences, which they are trying to work on and hopefully resolve," said Cindi Berger, O'Donnell's spokesperson.
