Kate Davis directs HBO documentary Jockey, set to air April 26

Jockey, the second documentary directed by Kate Davis, follows the lives of three dedicated riders as they cope with the demands of their profession. Punctuated by footage of dramatic moments in recent horse racing history, this startling America Undercover documentary debuts just days before all eyes are on the Kentucky Derby. Jockey takes an intimate, often-disturbing look at the hidden world of thoroughbred racing through the eyes of superstar jockeys Shane Sellers and Randy Romero and aspiring apprentice Chris Rosier.

Davis won the Grand Jury Prize for documentaries at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival for her film Southern Comfort, a 90-minute feature-length documentary about the life of Robert Eads, a 52-year-old male transsexual who lived in the back hills of Georgia. For more than a decade, Davis has been making films about members of marginalized societies, beginning with Girltalk, a feature documentary on three abused runaway teenage girls. With numerous film awards from various film festivals, she also produced the critically acclaimed Transgender Revolution, a documentary on the gender community's fight for civil rights. She also produced Anti-Gay Hate Crimes and Untying the Straightjacket and Hooked on a Dream for A&E. As an editor, Davis has worked on feature documentaries, including Paris Is Burning. Jockey is set to air on HBO Monday, April 26, at 8 p.m.
