The Log Cabin Republicans announced Tuesday that it has opened its first California office and hired longtime member Jeff Bissiri as Western field director. "California will be at the forefront of the fight for the Republican Party's future and the fight for basic fairness for gay and lesbian families," he said. "In the coming months, Californians will begin an important debate about how to strengthen gay and lesbian families. Log Cabin looks forward to playing a critical role in this debate." Bissiri has a long history working within the Republican Party and the gay and lesbian community. He is a past president of Log Cabin-Los Angeles, chairman of the Log Cabin-California board of directors, a former Republican candidate for the California assembly, an alternate delegate to the 2000 Republican National Convention, a delegate to the 2004 Republican National Convention, and a member of the California Republican Party state central committee.
