The political action committee of Equality California, the statewide LGBT advocacy organization, has endorsed Steve Westly for governor ahead of the June 6 primary. The endorsement was announced Tuesday in Sacramento, along with seven others for other statewide and legislative races. "Steve Westly is the only gubernatorial candidate who has unequivocally supported equality for our community from the very start of his political career," Geoffrey Kors, Equality California executive director, said in a statement. "Only one candidate for governor had a perfect score on our questionnaire, and that candidate is Steve Westly." The questionnaire asked candidates to state their positions on 16 separate issues affecting LGBT Californians, also inquiring whether the candidates would only endorse other candidates who support LGBT rights, including marriage equality. Both the Stonewall Democratic Club of Greater Sacramento and the Stonewall Democratic Club, Los Angeles, have also endorsed Westly. (The Advocate)
