A case seeking marriage rights for same-sex couples in New York will be heard by the court of appeals, the state's highest court, on Wednesday. The case of Hernandez v. Robles is the first of its kind to be heard by the state's high court. The gay rights group Lambda Legal won the case at the trial court level, but a state appellate court overturned that decision.

In addition to Hernandez, the court will hear arguments on the same day in three other marriage equality cases. Susan Sommer, senior counsel at Lambda Legal, and Daniel Reyes and Curtis Woolbright, one of the five plaintiff couples seeking the right to marry in New York, will speak at the Wednesday hearing in Albany.
