A senior Vatican
cardinal has called same-sex marriage "absolute
nothingness" and says he fears the Catholic Church could be
prosecuted in an international court for its right-to-life
stance. Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo told the
Italian weekly newspaper Famiglia Cristiana that he
fears that "speaking in defense of life, of the rights
of the family, is becoming in some societies a crime
against the state."
The cardinal singled out European nations that
have legalized same-sex marriage and accused them of
"exporting" socially liberal policies. He also said he
fears that groups like Amnesty international may begin
campaigns against countries that outlaw abortion.
Amnesty officials have confirmed discussing such
a campaign but have made no decision on it. (Sirius
