Ace Gallery in
Los Angeles presents Robert Wilson's "Voom Portraits"
on Friday, February 23, 8-10 p.m. Wilson became
widely known in the late 1960s and '70s for his
avant-garde theater productions, in particular his
1976 collaboration with Philip Glass, Einstein on the
Beach.
With "Voom
Portraits," Wilson explores the relationship between
still photography and moving image. His video portraits
feature high-profile celebrities, animals, and
everyday people moving slowly within a large framed
screen. He also creates vignettes with his human
subjects, which employ characteristics of his theater
pieces.
Wilson's work has
been exhibited at museums around the world. He was born
in 1941 in Waco, Texas, and current lives in New York City.
The Ace Gallery
is located at 5514 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. For
