Jane magazine will cease publication with its August issue. Charles H. Townsend, the CEO of Conde Nast Publications, Jane's parent company, made the announcement official in a press release.

"This was a very difficult decision for us," Townsend said in the press release. "We worked diligently to make Jane a success. However, we have come to believe that the magazine and Web site will not fulfill our long-term business expectations."

The magazine was founded in 1997 by Jane Pratt, who was also founding editor of the now-defunct cult teen girl mag Sassy. (The Advocate)
