Releases Position on Calif. Ballot Measures

Though he's been saying for months he would not support California's Proposition 8, which would strip same-sex couples of the right to marry, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made his vow official Thursday by releasing his position on the state's ballot measures.

Though he's been saying for months he would not support California's Proposition 8, which would strip same-sex couples of the right to marry, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made his vow official Thursday by releasing his position on the state's ballot measures.

According to TheSacramento Bee, Schwarzenegger said he would vote no on Prop. 8. His position aligns with that of nearly every major newspaper throughout the state.

Schwarzenegger's opinion on several other ballot measures, however, is more in line with the Republican Party platform.

He supports a measure that would require girls under 18 years of age to notify their parents before having an abortion, and he opposes altering farm animal confinement standards.

But the governor took a neutral stance on two proposed crime measures.

Despite the urging of the No on 8 campaign, Schwarzenegger has stopped short of appealing to California voters directly to vote no on Proposition 8. (The Advocate)
