Los Angeles filmmakers John Ireland and John Ainsworth have posted the first episode of their reenactment of the Proposition 8 trial, currently under way in San Francisco. The men announced last week that they'd use material gathered from live bloggers to re-create the proceedings, which the U.S. Supreme Court has blocked from being broadcast.
In this first episode, Ireland tells The Advocate, "we jump right into the plaintiffs' story. They tell firsthand why it is important for them to be married. That narrative is then propelled through the rest of the drama by the professionals -- the litigators and the academics. There's quite a drama that unfolds after the plaintiffs arrive, but really it's about those people's stories."
You can watch the first episode below, and check Ireland's and Ainsworth's website, MarriageTrial.com, for more information and further episodes. You can read The Advocate's interview with Ireland and Ainsworth here.
