Antigay Islamic groups raided a hotel occupied by stranded attendees of a canceled pan-Asian gay rights conference Saturday in East Java, Indonesia.
The gay rights advocates were stuck in a hotel in the city of Surabaya after authorities decided to cancel the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association's regional conference due to an outcry from conservative Muslims.
According to Radio Australia, "On Saturday members of several hardline Islamic groups allegedly descended on the hotel harassing participants."
No one was hurt in the raid, but human rights groups are asking the Surabaya police to arrest those involved in the raid.
